BUSINESS PROCESS MODELING |business process management|BPM|bpm software|business process management Business Process modeling allows you to map the entire genome of your company as activities, procedures, steps, resources and more. The process maps you create in business process modeling represent the specific everyday operations of your business. By creating a picture of your company’s flow of work, you are given the power to make specific process improvements and evolve your business practices for the best chance of survival and growth. The activity of modeling a business process usually predicates a need to change processes or identify issues to be corrected. This transformation may or may not require IT involvement, although that is a common driver for the need to model a business process. The term business process modeling is used in different contexts. For example, in Business process modeling the enterprise process model is often referred to as the business process model. Process models are core concepts in the discipline of Business Process Engineering. Business Process Modeling plays an important role in the business process management (BPM) discipline. Since both Business Process Modeling and Business Process Management share the same acronym (BPM), these activities are sometimes confused with each other.Modeling language standards that are used for BPM include Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), Unified Modeling Language (UML), Object Process Methodology (OPM), and Web Services Choreography Description Language (WS-CDL).[14] Other technologies related to business process modeling include model-driven architecture and service-oriented architecture. You would need appropriate tools to business processes modeling. It could start with basic word processing tools like word, move into graphic tools like visio to sophisticated tools like aris, system architect. Choice of tools would depend on requirements and objectives for business process modeling and obviously other factors like cost, skill sets etc. I personally feel that modeling efforts in tools like word and visio is a myopic view to process modeling are assets of any organizations and should be available centrally to be updated constantly. You should consider a repository based tool which supports standard business process modeling and reporting techniques to provide long term benefits. Companies practicing Six Sigma without business process modeling and simulation techniques need to consider what these practices can provide in terms of risk-analysis and decision-making (such as cost estimating, scheduling, resource allocation, engineering design, etc.) by modeling the probabilistic behavior of a system, process or service. So Business Process Modelling can be defined as a schematic representation of activities and functions performed by an organization to achieve success in their trade and services offered to the market and customers. Business process modeling creates a model for management, allowing organizations to manage their activities just as they manage the people performing the activities. More than that, Business process modeling allows process engineers to enact specific improvements on the company structure with fast implementation, ensuring the most efficient change management. Business process modeling and simulation can be invaluable in situations where the construction of a real world model is infeasible. Business process modeling helps to visualize a proposed system, facility layout, or other process change. It can help answer "what if" questions and scenarios within a given confidence level. Business process Modeling(BPM) and simulation can often demonstrate the effectiveness (or lack of) of a new design or process through the exploring the implications of operational changes and the investigation of the impact of changes in the marketplace. |
