Process Mapping
Clarify your business with Process Mapping
Process Mapping is the activity of breaking entire work patterns into steps, activities, and processes. A process map is a representation of the overall work that is done within a company or department. Work is represented in processes as shapes in a specific notation (FirstSTEP, BPMN); different shapes indicate a different type of process phase. The result is a map, or flowchart, that serves as a powerful analytic tool in improving company operations.Process Mapping Charts are the way to excellence
Process Mapping is conducted by first assessing the current state of business activities. Managers and employees are interviewed in order to ascertain the state of current work methods. Depending on the level of detail required for the process mapping initiative, this step can go as far down as the lowest level of detail, where the tradeoff of work between employees in their tasks and activities is elucidated.Once the as-is state of company affairs is properly understood, improvements can be made. Process maps allow managers to easily visualize how resources are being consumed in daily work activities, where work handoffs are being made, and where key inefficiencies are found. An activity may span several departments needlessly, and with an accurate process map, your company can readjust work methods to avoid such situations.
With the processes mapped and improved, they are ready for deployment. Process mapping allows the improved work information to be shared with employees, giving them an accurate idea of how their work methods should be improved. These maps then allow employees to work according to the activities as they are mapped in the processes.
