The Challenge: Streamlining GRC Compliance Across Critical Business Processes

As part of its commitment to corporate accountability, Pepsi-Cola Manufacturing International Ltd. (PCMIL) faced mounting complexity in aligning its operations with the Global Control Standard (GCS) and SOX compliance. With over 100 mapped processes spread across Excel and Visio and no centralized platform, audit preparations were costly, time-consuming, and vulnerable to inconsistencies.

The absence of a unified documentation system and disconnected role matrices created confusion, elevated risk exposure, and made the audit process highly disruptive. PCMIL needed a solution to embed governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) directly into business processes and integrate those with daily operations.

  • Mapping cross-functional processes like Purchase-to-Pay, Sales-to-Collection, Financial Reporting, and Fixed Assets

  • Embedding risk matrices and RACI frameworks to assign ownership and quantify risks

  • Enabling real-time access and collaboration for over 100 non-technical users

The rollout received top-level support from Finance, Manufacturing, and Quality departments, as well as oversight from corporate headquarters—ensuring enterprise-wide engagement and successful adoption.

With EPC in place, PCMIL achieved its goal of integrating global control strategies with daily operations:

  • SOX and GCS audits became faster and less disruptive, with automated generation of Control Matrices, RACI reports, and audit trails

  • Auditor feedback was overwhelmingly positive, citing EPC’s clear audit trail and standardized knowledge across teams

What’s Next: Expanding GRC to New Domains

Building on their success, PCMIL plans to extend EPC to additional departments such as HR, Payroll, IT, Customs & Duties, Travel & Entertainment, and Safety. Upcoming phases will focus on automating control testing and audit scheduling to further streamline compliance processes and boost audit readiness year after year.
